About us

About the brewery...

In Hlučín, an ancient town near Ostrava, beer was brewed as early as the 16th century. In 1904, after almost four hundred years, beer stopped being brewed in Hlučín. In 1993, the current owners built a new brewery on the ruins of the original brewery and thus renewed the tradition of local beer production.

New logo, new beer, new labels...

Corona and the war in Ukraine also affected us a lot, so we have used the last two years to change our market position. We have used this time intensively to move with the times, so we are particularly pleased to be able to present all our new beers in a new guise today. In addition to our traditional beers, we have been working on many new projects and have been able to significantly expand our range. Old recipes have been partially reinterpreted, many new beer styles have been added, and so we are particularly pleased to be able to offer you a wide variety of different beers today.

Year of foundation1526

The first historical mention of the Hlučín brewery dates back to 1526 - beer was brewed in the Měšt'anský Pivovar in Pode Zdí Street, not far from today's Peace Square, until 1904.

Fire1904

The brewery never had a bed of roses - during its history it burned down several times and at the time of the biggest boom of brewing in Bohemia (at the turn of the 19th and 20th century) it was even closed - beer was then imported to Hlučín from nearby Opava and Ostrava.

Reconstruction and re-opening (Old Hlučín brewery)1993

Over time, the unused brewery building turned into an unsightly torso adorning the town centre, fortunately in the early 1990s. Although the local citizen Leonard Plaček decided to restore its original function and bought the devastated ruin from the town, although the then council put unnecessary obstacles to this pious undertaking, it was possible to brew a new batch of local beer again in 1993 in the comprehensively rebuilt and modernized former ruin after 90 years - the elegant company with its own restaurant produced its eleven-grade Hlučínský Ležák.

Once all NEW please! (avarbrewingco.)2023

We have turned the brewery upside down, so to speak, once in the last two years. Our traditional range has been joined by several new beers, beer styles and processes. The logo was revamped, the CI was changed, a new homepage was developed and so today everything appears in a new dress. In order to ensure the existence of the brewery in today's world, we decided to rejuvenate the brewery and expand our market.
